How is the manufactured blood collected?
During production of FBS, blood is collected through direct cardiac puncture. Formula Fed BCS is collected through puncture of the jugular vein. Both types are collected using a single use (disposable) needle.
Is there a risk of contamination of blood with Specific Risk Materials?
Blood is collected from the slaughter facilities that comply with FSIS regulation regarding stunning methods and SRM removal. Also, blood collection areas are physically segregated to prevent contamination with other animal materials.
